If you have never tried maca powder it has an earthy, malty flavour and is loaded with regenerative health benefits including helping with restoring balance especially for women with mood disorders, PMS, energy and menopause symptoms.
Research indicates that inflammation is at the root of most chronic diseases, including arthritis, diabetes, cancer, and hypertension. But, just as a poor diet can cause inflammation, a good diet can fight it.
This is one reason I included tahini in this recipe. The antioxidants found in tahini, sesamin and sesamolin, can help fight inflammation. Studies have shown these antioxidants inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines. Tahini is also known to be a "good fat" with heart-healthy benefits and is also a great non-dairy way to get valuable calcium. Tahini also contains zinc which is an important building block for collagen. For the non-vegans, I also included collagen for added protein, skin, hair and nail benefits.
