Day 5 - 80/20 Upgrades




Hi there and welcome back to the last day of The PURE Food Challenge. Before we complete this challenge I want to leave you with a few upgrades for two of the most popular comfort foods people are running to in stressful times.


Will you never use food to soothe again after this challenge? I doubt it. Never say never. Life happens and so does the desire to want to have comfort in the form of food. Why fight that? Instead make friends with this very human desire and instead of resisting and going into old diet abuse thinking... switch it all up with the mindset of 80/20. Give yourself permission to choose 20% of the time foods that you want. However make it all a conscious choice. For example, if I am going to have chocolate I need to plan it for earlier in the day because otherwise I get wired and am up in the wee hours of the night, while everyone else is all tucked in I am up pacing and growing fur on my teeth!!! It isn't pretty when I don't make it a conscious choice according to my body's unique needs.


So the point of this lesson is not to say hey, now go out and continue using food to soothe. NO quite the opposite. Keep on keeping on making wise choices to build up your immune system. And... when the urge strikes as surely it might, take these foods and upgrade them so they still offer you maximum nutritional and immune boosting value.






Am I the only one who likes Chili Onion Crunch on everything including on my chocolate!!!! Or what???????? Switch it up and instead of mac nuts use your 2 (no more than 2 as selenium can be toxic for the body in high doses)Brazil nuts a day (food as medicine - for the selenium benefits).

Dates contain several antioxidants that offer a number of health benefits including a reduced risk of several diseases.


Antioxidants protect your cells from unstable molecules known as free radicals, that may cause harmful reactions in your body and lead to disease.

Compared to similar types of fruit, such as figs and dried plums, dates come in first place having the highest antioxidant content.


  • Flavonoids: Flavonoids are powerful antioxidants that may help reduce inflammation and have been studied for their potential to reduce the risk of diabetes, Alzheimer's disease and certain types of cancer

  • Carotenoids: Carotenoids are proven to promote heart health and may also reduce the risk of eye-related disorders, such as macular degeneration

  • Phenolic acid: Known for its anti-inflammatory properties, phenolic acid may help lower the risk of cancer and heart disease
